Our Educational Philosophy

Building Confidence Through Interactive Learning

Dental Apptitude has been developed by dental educators to support modern teaching and independent study. Every tool is designed to help students build confidence before applying their knowledge in the clinic or laboratory.

Build
Confidence

Interactive exercises, visual simulations and unlimited practice help students understand concepts before they're assessed.

Save
Teaching Time

Move revision and foundational concepts online, allowing valuable classroom and laboratory time to focus on discussion and practical skills.

Bridge
Theory & Practice

Connect digital learning with hands-on practical work through realistic simulations and downloadable 3D-printable laboratory models.

1. Dental Foundations

Build fluency in core clinical knowledge, notation, and jaw classifications.

Module 01
Free App

Angle's Classification Studio

Explore malocclusion classifications. Drag the mandibular arch to simulate Class I, Class II, and Class III jaw relationships.

Module 02
Foundations Plan

Notation & Morphology Explorer

Master the language of the oral cavity. Explore the FDI World Dental Federation and Universal numbering charts using interactive dental arches.

Module 03
Foundations Plan

Gamified Anatomy & Notation

Test your speed using gamified tooth identification. Race against strike counters to accurately catalog randomized tooth setups under pressure.

2. Removable Partial Denture Design Suite

Educational-standard interactive RPD apps engineered for dental educators and students.

Component A

Kennedy's Classification Simulator

Classify partially dentate configurations using a real-time simulator.

Run Simulator →
Component B

Surveyor

Analyse paths of insertion and identify useable undercuts interactively.

Launch Surveyor →
Component C

Designer

Apply the RPD Design principles of Davenport to draft Removable Partial Denture frameworks.

Open Designer →
Component D

STL Model Library

Download STL files to use in the Surveyor-Designer workflow. Based and ready to 3D print for physical laboratory surveying practice.

Complex Ideas, Simplified

Surveyor: Built To Make Surveying Clearer

Undercut identification and RPD design can be challenging to teach from diagrams alone. The Surveyor tool lets students visually explore paths of insertion and select undercut postitions and locations digitally before planning the design itself.

Guided Design Workflow

Designer: The
Davenport Design System

Our Designer tool follows a structured workflow that mirrors the way removable partial dentures are taught and designed. Each stage builds on the last, helping you teach not only which component to choose, but why.

01

Structured Workflow

Follow Davenport's recommended design sequence, guiding learners through each stage in a logical order and reinforcing a consistent approach to framework design.

02

Flexible Patient Scenarios

Create and adapt a wide range of patient scenarios to suit your teaching. Build designs from your own clinical cases or use the included examples to support classroom learning.

03

Reinforce Learning

Use the Design Suite to make discussions, assessment, and feedback clearer for both students and educators.

Built By An Educator

Created In The Classroom

Dental Apptitude is designed and maintained by Chet Geisel, Senior Lecturer and Programme Director for the BSc (Hons) Dental Technology programme at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Every tool is built to solve a real teaching problem first, then refined using feedback from students and colleagues in an active dental technology programme.

In Active Use

Used in teaching and formative assessment on the BSc (Hons) Dental Technology programme at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Educator-Led

Designed by a dental technology lecturer to fit real curricula, to enhance learning, teaching and assessment.

Evidence In Progress

Findings from ongoing use in teaching and assessment are being written up for publication. Institutions interested in a pilot or research collaboration are welcome to get in touch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the platform and institutional deployment.

No. Dental Apptitude is 100% browser-native and built on a modern serverless architecture. It runs instantly on Google Chrome, Safari, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox across Windows, Mac, iPad, and Chromebooks without requiring any IT installation, administrative privileges, or local graphics hardware.

Our Designer workspace is built following the Davenport protocol for partial denture design. Components and associated drawing tools are colour-coded, and ordered following this protocol.

We offer friction-free pass-through authentication via Supabase. Once an institution registers a cohort tier, we whitelist the university’s specific email handle (e.g., `@university.ac.uk`). Students simply sign up using their university credentials and are instantly granted access to the whole platform. While sudents need to sign up using their university email address, we encourage the use of a different password for security.

Yes. All models available for download in our library are checked for mesh errors and fully optimized for standard dental 3D printing technologies (SLA/MSLA/DLP resins) to facilitate analogue surveying.

Yes, absolutely. There are no locking contracts, hidden fees, or minimum retention periods. You can manage your subscription or cancel your plan at any time via our Stripe-integrated Billing portal. Your access will remain fully active until the conclusion of your current cycle.

Yes. All user credentials, powered by Supabase, link to individual profiles. Users can seamlessly log into the platform from your University devices, or personal devices (laptops, tablets).

Yes. Security and data minimisation are built into the architecture. All authentication layers are handled securely via enterprise-grade Supabase protocols, and payment processing is fully tokenised through Stripe. We do not store sensitive information at all, including student records or user financial records, on our servers, and analytics cookies are strictly managed based on transparent user consent preferences.

Yes. The system is designed to be completely data-free. The only information relating to a patient is the dentition definition. Users are encouraged to manage all patient-data outside of this system accordance with their instututional guidelines. Users can save their designs as a .RPD file and return to edit it later.
