Terms and Conditions
Summary of key terms: Our clinical software (RPD Rx) and design review service (RPD Rx Consult) are supplied strictly to registered dental professionals for professional use. We provide technical surveying, design tools and peer-reviewed framework recommendations. As the treating clinician, you remain solely responsible for examining the patient, confirming clinical suitability, obtaining patient consent, carrying out tooth preparations, and authorising the final laboratory prescription.
1. About these terms
These Terms and Conditions govern your use of the Dental Apptitude educational platform, the RPD Rx prescription workspace, and the RPD Rx Consult design review service, operated by Chet Geisel trading as Dental Apptitude ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account, subscribing to a plan, or submitting a case for review, you agree to these terms.
2. Eligibility and professional registration
RPD Rx and RPD Rx Consult are business-to-business services supplied exclusively to dental professionals registered with the UK General Dental Council (GDC) or an equivalent overseas dental regulator, acting in the course of their professional practice.
When you submit a case to RPD Rx Consult, we check your GDC registration number against the public register before any design work is released. We do not provide advice, services or communications directly to patients.
3. Clinical responsibility and regulatory boundaries
Our tools and consultation reviews are designed to support clear technical communication between the clinic and the dental laboratory, in line with GDC Standards for the Dental Team and GDC Scope of Practice. By using RPD Rx or RPD Rx Consult, you acknowledge and agree that:
- No patient examination or diagnosis: Our reviewers only see the digital scans, photographs and written notes you choose to submit. We do not examine the patient, take radiographs, test pulp vitality, chart periodontal pocketing, or assess mucosal pathology.
- Treating clinician’s responsibility: As the prescribing clinician, you retain full clinical and legal responsibility for the patient’s diagnosis, overall treatment plan, periodontal and restorative suitability of abutment teeth, occlusal assessment, valid patient consent, tooth preparation, and the fitting and aftercare of any prosthesis.
- Review and sign-off of prescriptions: Every design rationale, survey image, PDF diagram and editable
.RPDfile we supply is a technical recommendation for your consideration. You must review it against your clinical findings, make any adjustments you consider necessary, and authorise the final prescription under your own name and GDC registration number before sending it to a dental laboratory. - Not a custom-made medical device manufacturer: RPD Rx Consult provides independent design advice and draft prescription documentation only. We do not manufacture dental appliances. Responsibility for manufacturing the removable partial denture—and for issuing the required statement of manufacture under the UK Medical Devices Regulations 2002—rests with the dental laboratory you instruct to make the prosthesis.
4. RPD Rx Consult: Case submissions, records check and refunds
When you submit a case to RPD Rx Consult:
- De-identified records: You confirm that you hold any necessary permissions to share de-identified study records with a dental technology colleague for technical review, and that you have excluded the patient’s name, date of birth, NHS number and contact details from your notes and images.
- Initial records check: Before starting design work, we check that your STL scan or study cast photographs contain sufficient anatomical detail to survey and plan the case safely (for example, adequate coverage of abutment teeth, sulci, palate or lingual sulcus).
- Inadequate records and full refund guarantee: If your records are incomplete or unclear, we will email you to explain what is missing so you can supply an updated scan or photograph. If the case cannot be planned safely from the records available—or if you ask to cancel your submission before we begin survey and design work—we will refund 100% of the consultation fee you paid.
- Turnaround times: We aim to issue written case reviews within the timeframe stated on our website (typically within 48 hours / 2 to 3 working days of confirming adequate records). For video consultations, we will email you after the initial survey to book a mutually convenient 30-minute video call. Turnaround times are estimates given in good faith rather than legally binding deadlines.
5. Software subscriptions (Dental Apptitude & RPD Rx)
- Individual and Practice Plans: Monthly subscriptions (including the Design Suite Plan, RPD Rx Direct, and RPD Rx Pro) are billed monthly in advance via Stripe. There is no minimum contract term; you may cancel at any time through the Stripe billing portal, and your access will continue until the end of your current billing period.
- Practice-level use: An RPD Rx Direct or RPD Rx Pro subscription covers use within a single dental practice site. Individual clinicians within that practice must enter their own name and GDC number on each PDF prescription they export.
- Institutional Plans: University and college cohort licences are billed annually in advance for an agreed number of student and staff seats, verified via your institution’s email domain.
6. Fees and payment
All fees are stated in pounds sterling (GBP) on our website at the time of purchase or case submission. Payments are processed securely through Stripe.
7. Intellectual property and use of materials
- Your clinical records: You (and your practice) retain all rights in the scans, photographs and clinical notes you upload.
- Your consultation report and prescription: Once paid for, you have a permanent, royalty-free licence to file our written consultation report and survey images in the patient’s clinical notes, share them with the patient during consent discussions, and send the PDF prescription and
.RPDfile to any dental laboratory of your choice for the treatment of that patient. - Platform software: All rights in the Dental Apptitude and RPD Rx software, 3D surveyor code, 2D design tools and STL model library remain the property of Dental Apptitude. You may not copy, resell or reverse-engineer our software, or redistribute our teaching STL models outside your licensed institution.
8. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other matter which cannot be excluded under the laws of England and Wales.
Subject to the paragraph above, because our services are provided strictly to dental professionals as technical decision-support tools:
- We are not liable for any clinical outcome, prosthesis failure, tooth loss, soft-tissue trauma or remake cost arising from: (a) clinical conditions not visible on the submitted scan or photographs (such as tooth mobility, periodontal disease, caries, root pathology or mucosal compressibility); (b) inaccuracies or distortions in the impressions, scans or bite registrations supplied to us; (c) alterations made to the design after our report is issued; or (d) manufacturing defects introduced by the dental laboratory fabricating the appliance.
- We are not liable for indirect or consequential business losses, such as loss of practice profits, chair time or goodwill.
- Our total aggregate liability to you in respect of any single consultation case shall not exceed the fee paid for that consultation (or, in respect of software subscriptions, the total subscription fees paid by you in the 12 months preceding the claim).
9. Complaints and governing law
If you have any concern about a design review or our software, please write to support@dentalapptitude.com. We acknowledge all complaints within five working days and aim to resolve them promptly and collegially.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.
